System Requirements and Network Set Up

Wise Option can be used either on a single computer (laptop or desktop) or shared through a local network.

It is a Windows based application, which can run with Windows 2000, Windows XP (Home and Pro), Windows Server 2003, and Windows Vista. If you are planning to have Wise Option on your local network, we recommend you to have it on Windows XP Pro or Windows Server 2003.

Wise Option is NOT a web based application. In other words, both the software and the database will be placed on your computer/server and only those connected to your local network will have access to your data.

Wise Option is ready for Windows Vista.

Network Set Up

Wise Option is a network-based application using standard Microsoft network technology. As with all network applications, the performance is directly related to the quality and speed of your network. Although we recommend 100 MB switched Ethernet as a minimum configuration for optimal performance, Wise Option has successfully been tested over slower connections such as VPN and Wireless links. At a minimum, Wise Option requires access to the standard Microsoft SMB file sharing ports and Microsoft SQL Server ports to connect and run properly. Please consult with a network professional if you have questions about advanced or complicated network installations.

Basically, the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) is installed on the computer you choose to work as Wise Option data server (SQL Server Express 2005 for Windows Vista). If you already have SQL Server we simply need to attach the new database to your existing SQL Server Group. Also, Wise Option (the program) and components are installed on that server. Then, for terminals you wish to reach out Wise Option (program and database) you will need a drive map on each local computer, pointing to that shared folder on the server. Terminals will run the application from the server, not locally and that is the moment when Microsoft SMB file sharing is needed.

Additionally, you will have to run an install wizard on each terminal. That wizard does not contain neither the Wise Option application nor the Wise Option database. It simply registers, on the local computer, the files and components needed to run Wise Option from the server (DLLs and OCXs).

Firewall issues are usually easily addressed through Exceptions set up for Wise Option and SQL Server with the Windows Security Center. Sometimes extra set ups are needed if you have other protection schemas such as Norton and McAfee. For those, please contact their websites and customer support.

We will be glad to speak with your network people and provide more details as needed. However, the network configuration has to be performed by your own computer/network personal.
